myriad garden events draw visitors

The Myriad Botanical Gardens, as a beautiful place of respite in the Central Business District, is regularly filled with visitors of all ages enjoying a range of activities and programs.

Since its grand reopening in the fall of 2011, the Myriad Gardens Foundation has greatly increased the programs and offerings at the park, and has also dramatically increased its membership base from just a handful of members to nearly 2,800. Membership and facility rental fees help pay for the maintenance of the gardens as well as the wide spectrum of educational, recreational and cultural programming. This fiscal year, more than 200,000 people will enjoy events including movie nights, concerts, children’s events and more.

One of the most popular events is the “Dancing in the Gardens” series, which now occurs monthly from May to September. The most recent installment observed Cinco de Mayo, with hundreds of people salsa dancing in the seasonal plaza. Upcoming styles include swing dancing, line dancing, tango dancing and cha-cha.

Sonic Summer Movies Nights will continue on Wednesday evenings, along with special concerts, full-moon bike rides, guided plant walks and a wide variety of other activities.
