operators key to ongoing success of largest MAPS 3 projects

Three of the largest MAPS 3 projects hit a recent milestone. Operators were selected for the convention center, Oklahoma City Streetcar and the downtown public park.

These are the vendors who will take over daily control once we have these assets built – a huge responsibility considering the success of these three projects will depend largely on the experience and quality of the operator’s oversight.

The new convention center operating partner is SMG. Its convention center division operates the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, as well as 60 other convention centers across the country. Herzog Transit Services, operator of the new Kansas City streetcar, was selected for the streetcar operation. The newly formed MAPS Park Foundation is led by the executive staff that manages the Myriad Botanical Gardens. These groups will consult, operate and manage the policies and operations of these important Oklahoma City assets.

Our city has invested heavily in the assets and infrastructure our citizens want and our city needs to grow, thrive and be an attractive place to live, work and visit. The successful operations of those assets; the safety policies, operations policies, staffing and marketing, as well as the coordination among the three operators, will be key to the long-term success of these projects and how they are used and enjoyed by everyone.
