Report shows increase in jobs, wages
Recently the city gave an update on its efforts to address the stated priorities of our City Council, one which is to encourage a robust economy.
A strong economy that supports job creation and improves the local tax base is fundamental to our growth. To make Oklahoma City an attractive option for current and future residents and businesses, the goal is to encourage a high quality of life for residents and promote a pro-business environment that makes it clear we value the contribution of a strong business community.
Based on three progress indicators: number of people employed, average weekly earnings and number of passengers boarding at Will Rogers Airport, the economic news is encouraging. A portion of this success can be attributed to the economic tools developed and supported by our city leaders and citizens.
Over the past year, the number of people employed in metro Oklahoma City has increased by nearly 8 percent. Average weekly earnings also have seen a significant increase of nearly 13 percent in the last year.
