Top economic successes in 2017


We should celebrate. This year, Oklahoma City experienced several positive economic indicators. The number of jobs, people employed and sales tax revenue in metro Oklahoma City increased. The only thing better than our 2017 economic development results is the anticipation of what’s to come in 2018.

Here is my top 10 list of economic successes in 2017:

10. The new convention center and convention center hotel. Omni Hotels was selected to build a 17-story, 600-room signature hotel, a critical piece for our convention business. Populous, the architect for the convention center, shared designs for the beautiful 200,000-square-foot exhibit hall and meeting spaces.

9. Parking. We acquired land to build an 865-space parking garage for the new convention center, convention center hotel, Scissortail Park and Chesapeake Arena.

8. Streetcar. Rail installation is on schedule in downtown and Bricktown. Embark unveiled three vibrant colors for our streetcars and selected an operator.

7. Santa Fe Station. Another public transit accomplishment, this intermodal hub will link streetcar, Amtrak, bus service, bikes and pedestrians.
