Douglass at Page Woodson wins national award
The National Trust for Historic Preservation recently announced the Douglass at Page Woodson apartment community as one of only three winners of the 2018 Richard H. Driehaus Foundation National Preservation Awards. It is the nation’s most coveted and prestigious preservation award, bestowed on projects that demonstrate excellence in execution and a positive impact on the vitality of their towns and cities.
The Douglass at Page Woodson was developed by Colony Partners and SCG Development in partnership with the Oklahoma City Urban Renewal Authority and designed by Smith Dalia Architects.
The project is an excellent example of redevelopment using the economic tools available to preserve the historic structure and make it financially feasible for the developer to invest in the project. Working with OCURA, Colony Partners was able to utilize tax increment financing, state and federal historic tax credits as well as affordable housing tax credits.
The national preservation award is one of many reasons that Oklahoma City should be proud of the redevelopment. The restoration of the school and the surrounding land increases much needed housing options near the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, one of Oklahoma City’s top employers. The Douglass at Page Woodson and the Douglas Next Door offer 128 affordable housing units and additional phases add market-rate apartments.
