Greater OKC Chamber’s D.C. trip has local impact

Decisions made at our nation’s capital have a significant impact on our local businesses and our community. It is valuable to learn and discuss issues important to our city with our leaders at the highest level.

The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber provides that connection through their annual trip to Washington, D.C. The two-day event gives attendees the opportunity to converse personally with members of the Oklahoma congressional delegation and defense leaders and to advocate for pro-business legislation.

The whirlwind trip is so much more than shaking hands with our representatives. Attendees will hear briefings with Oklahoma’s U.S. senators and congressmen to learn more about legislation that impacts our businesses. A reception is held on Capitol Hill for attendees, federal officials and defense leaders. On the second day, sessions cover specific areas of interest on issues critical to our community, including a military defense briefing.

The trip builds connections that extend beyond the two days of the event. Taking the time to leave our businesses and travel to Washington, D.C., to discuss our business interests and concerns in person with our representatives makes a lasting impact. Often the representatives have staffers attend the meetings to take notes, follow up with attendees or investigate the issues further. This is invaluable in keeping our voices heard, keeping the issues at the forefront of the national conversation and building legislative relationships long term.
