okc picks center site

Careful planning and consideration can produce great results. Through several site studies, committee discussions, expert input and deliberation, the city of Oklahoma City has agreed on the new MAPS 3 convention center site.

The new site sits south of the Chesapeake Energy Arena in a currently little-traveled area of downtown, at SW Fourth and SW Seventh streets in between Shields Boulevard and Robinson Avenue. SW Seventh Street and serve as the south end of the center and the start of the future Core to Shore park.

Numerous factors went into choosing the new site, not the least of which is consideration for future surrounding development. Not only will this site best serve the convention center, it will also help stimulate development in the adjacent blocks. With development already moving west of downtown, the convention center will help spur growth to the south.

The site was strategically selected because of its proximity to the MAPS3 Downtown Public Park, Bricktown, the Myriad Botanical Gardens, Chesapeake arena and other downtown attractions. It’s a short walk to the planned MAPS 3 streetcar project route and is near the new Oklahoma City Boulevard.
